Lingerie and stockings?

I may be completely off here. So I have stockings and these lingerie tops (dunno the name) they have the the lil rubber circles and latches behind them, to connect to the stockings but I dunno how too. Are these just for show? Or am I just getting mixed up and should buy other stockings.
