Can I get money for being indian?

My mom found pictures of my great grandma. She looks like a native American. We were going to look up sone records of her to see if she is. My grandma denies it though, saying that she's a French Canadian. I think my great grandma is 1/2 native American that would make me 1/16? I knew Indians at my school that got a lot of money. Is 1/16th enough to get money? If I am indian can I start going to tribal meetings?
